On the Beauty of Art in Immanuel Kant's Critique of the Faculty of Judgment
Keywords:
Fine arts - aesthetic judgment - genius - Kant - Critique of judgment.Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is to provide an interpretation of the passages of the Kritik der Urteilkraft (KU) dedicated to fine arts. Specifically, we attempt to explain the inclusion of the doctrine of genius in the Deduction of the a priori principle of taste. In such context, our explanation seeks to deal with the difficulties on the judgment of beauty of artificial objects, that Kant himself mentioned in KU. We consider that the doctrine of arts is included in the Deduction in order to show that the same a priori principle of taste is the ground of the judgments of beauty in the case of artificial objects.
